Daniel Ortega made an announcement during the commemoration of the Sandinista Revolution that ended up burying the last vestiges of democracy in Nicaragua. “There will be no more elections here,” he declared. With that phrase, he explicitly closed the electoral path as a mechanism for political change ahead of the elections scheduled for November 2027. In addition, he announced that he would work with the Parliament, controlled by him, to “put a wall” to political parties that intend to reach the Government through that path.
